Shrove Tuesday

Tomorrow is Shrove Tuesday.  You may be asking yourself what does that mean.  Well, the word shrove comes from the word shrive which means absolve.  The tradition in the Episcopal Church as well as some other denominations is to have pancakes on this day before Ash Wednesday.  Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lenten season which is a time of fasting, penance and reflection.  Therefore people traditionally clean out there cupboards and make pancakes.  My guess is that it makes for some interesting variations of pancakes.

Peace,
Fr. Fred

P.S.  Our annual pancake supper is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. tomorrow at St. Andrew's here in Chariton, IA.  We are asking for a free will offering and the proceeds from that offering will be donated to the Ministry Center Food Pantry.  Please come!
