Every year during Holy Week the priests and deacons from the diocese gather at St. Paul's Cathedral for the Chrism Mass. During the service the bishop blesses the oil which we will use to anoint those who are baptized and those who are sick.
During this service we also re-affirm our vows as clergy. It is a powerful service for me because I have to admit that I need to be reminded that I am not just Fred Steinbach anymore. I am a priest and with the priesthood comes expectations. I often say a prayer asking God for guidance in carrying out the responsibilities of my vocation.
