I have thought long and hard about
writing this. The last political cycle was difficult for many of us
in the United States. People took sides and unfortunately some of
those people resorted to their baser natures. Crude speech and name
calling reached new lows and I would like to think we are better than
that.
Jesus told us there were two main
commandments, love your God and love your neighbor. That is it. So,
how do you show your love? It can be a simple smile and a pleasant
greeting when meeting someone. It might be opening a door for a
stranger. It might also be a gentle reminder to take the high road
rather than the low road during a discussion. There are so many
ways to show your love. With love comes respect. The two go hand in
hand and maybe we need reminded of that.
There are times when all of us feel
unloved. Jesus told us we are all loved by God. God loves people of
all races, genders, sexual orientations and religions. I read the
other day that there may be 41,000 denominations of Christianity,
seventy three sects of Islam and five main divisions of Buddhism.
God loves and cares for us all.
There is no special and better heaven
for Episcopalians or Mormons or Buddhists or Baptists. We are all
children of God and God loves each of us. That is God's gift.
God bless you,
