Episcopal Reason

We had a new visitor today at our service and I really enjoyed our discussion afterward.  I reflected later on how Episcopalians are different from some denominations.  There is that leg called reason in our three legged stool that really makes so much difference in how Episcopalians view Christianity.

Reason is not new to Christianity.  Jesus was a big proponent of it as well.  He ate with those considered unclean because it made sense.  He healed on the Sabbath because it made sense.  One of his sayings is a favorite of mine:  "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath."  That statement is positively thick with reason.

Some people follow rules that really make no sense anymore.  There are many passages in the gospels where Jesus tests those rules and instead of worrying about doing things the right way, he concerns himself with doing the right thing.

Blessings,
Deacon Fred
